Challenge
Approximately 26 million cataract operations are conducted worldwide in a year. It is known that around 90 percent of Korean ophthalmologists conducting cataract surgeries have extensive experience, while more than half of cataract surgeons in other developed countries, such as the U.S., Canada, and Australia, are less experienced. Current conventional lighting used during cataract surgeries puts inexperienced surgeons and their patients at greater risk due to limited surgical visibility from low light transmittance through the cataract lens or corneal reflections.
Description
Oculight’s innovative cataract surgery technology uses the world's first endoillumination chopper and can eliminate problems arising from using external lighting in all cataract operations. At the same time, it allows surgeons to use other surgical techniques like “Phaco-chop” and “stop-and-stop” due to enhanced visibility. Ultimately, Oculight’s technology and iChopper deliver safe and quick cataract surgery to patients with significantly reduced risks of potential retinal phototoxicity.
