Challenge
Sexual violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the starkest collective failures of the international community. Globally, it is estimated that 35% of women worldwide experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. Almost 50% of all sexual assaults are against girls ages 15 and younger. VAWG has devastating public health and societal consequences, including increased HIV incidence, child/teenage pregnancy, school dropout, and emotional and psychological morbidity.
Description
NMNW’s innovative and evidence-based dual-gender “IMpower” program is a system of knowledge, strategies and skills that ends the cycle of violence by teaching girls to set boundaries, stand up and defend themselves, and boys to challenge rape culture, ask for consent and intervene in attack.
