About Possibility Labs
Possibility Labs mission is to accelerate the emergence of a solidarity economy by providing liberatory infrastructure for BIPOC and historically low-income communities. For us, liberatory infrastructure includes centering trust-based and participatory processes, with the goal of enabling autonomy and economic self-determination for our partners. A core insight leading to PL’s creation was that the needs of social entrepreneurs, activists, donors, investors, and innovators from across the field are broadly similar: access to infrastructure facilitating integrated capital and community governance strategies, oriented towards how our people actually live in the world, rather than risk management and financial returns. Whether with a community-governed fund looking to move a grant to a business, a movement group trying to increase their operational capacity without giving up board-level control over their work, or a real estate cooperative seeking to instrumentalize their securities, all of these groups would benefit from a shared platform focusing on enabling us to build this new world, creating our own infrastructure to transform our systems of finance and governance. Amidst the enormous potential of the current catalytic moment, PL is focused on opening new possibilities for racial equity and justice across philanthropic ecosystems by democratizing resourcing processes and empowering racial justice innovations. Our team brings decades of experience working in the fields of racial, gender, and economic justice; tech, global corporate finance, IT and operations; and movement and power building at the intersections of race, class, and gender within low-income communities of color. We have all experienced first-hand how the existing infrastructure paralyzes capital rather than moving it, as well as serving to hold back our movements rather than help them to be bold.
