Youth Equity Infusion

United States

Akiptan is looking to infuse equity to all of our youth borrowers by direct payments to their loan balances.

Ideation

$20,000.00

Last update: October 05, 2023

Challenge

The Native agriculture industry financing is plagued with issues. Access to non predatory capital, financial literacy inequities and trust land issues systemically challenge producers. Unfortunately, these issues also affect the youth as well. While the team at Akiptan is keenly focused on addressing these issues since 2019, youth are a top priority. The industry has shifted so drastically in the last 6 years that it requires a balancing act to intentionally help youth access responsible capital instead of burdening them with ridiculous amounts of debt at a young age. In the last six years, we have seen incredibly drastic market swings, a global pandemic, extreme weather patterns events, administration changes and the like. Our youth loans are a much smaller amount because we don't want to overburden our youth clients while we are helping them to emerge into the industry, but when the market is 2x - 3x higher than in 2019 it proves a challenge to provide meaningful access to capital. We can increase our loan limits, but we need to be conservative and help them be good stewards of debt, not to just take it all on and hope for the best.

Description

Akiptan would take this $20,000 and apply it in an equitable fashion directly to the balance that is due on the youth clients loan. This way they grow their equity and responsibly leverage that equity to keep up with the industry.
