Challenge
The problem being solved is the lack of access to a timely diagnostic for 3 billion people living in the developing world and in low-resource settings in developed countries. Existing diagnostic technologies are accurate but require labs, skilled personnel, high costs, and significant time to provide results.
Description
The solution allows anyone with minimal technical training to diagnose a disease directly at the point of care, in fifteen minutes, and at a cost below $5 USD per test. The results can be uploaded to a cloud server along with contextual information for real-time disease surveillance, which can be used to prevent, control or stop disease outbreaks.
Outcomes
Development of a rapid low-cost COVID-19 diagnostic tool that simplifies the testing process, reduces costs, and provides real-time results to empower health professionals and governments in managing disease outbreaks.
