Challenge
In many parts of the world, there is a big gap between the language spoken at home and the medium of instruction at school. Infact, there are over 617 million children who are not reaching minimum proficiency levels in reading. The 2016 GEM report states that ‘in multi-ethnic societies, imposing a dominant language through a school system has frequently been a source of grievance linked to wider issues of social and cultural inequality.’
