OverviewContributors

Challenge

Zimbabwe loses 330,000 hectares of tree cover every year, leading to the accumulation of greenhouse gases, land degradation, and climate change impacts like reduced rainfall. This affects agricultural yields and contributes to phenomena such as El Niño.

Description

The Evergreen Solutions developed the seed balls concept, a low-cost and highly efficient forest regeneration method that protects seeds from rodents, insects, and animals. The seed balls can be dispersed around inaccessible areas such as mountains and rough terrains, lowering the cost of tree planting incredibly compared to traditional methods.

Outcomes

Successfully launched projects at Midlands State University and Runchanyu in Shurugwi district, promoting low-cost, efficient forest regeneration in Zimbabwe.
