Challenge
Two out of every three people on Earth live in slums and are employed in the informal economy. They’re street vendors and artisan shoe makers, plumbers, and chefs. These economies represent the bulk of economic growth and employment opportunities going into the future; however, families living in informal settlements live under the poverty line. There’s very little information needed to improve these economies because they’re, cash-based, offline, and unbanked. They’re constrained by significant barriers to commerce like lack of information, cash flow, and credit. They live in structural poverty traps.
