Challenge

In Tribal communities, female literacy is ≤10% & 80% girls are out-of-school. High gender gap in education, increases from primary to secondary level due to gender discrimination. Low performance of girls at upper primary level leads to high drop out; Poor functioning of rural schools causing low learning level & high drop-out of children; Lack of contextualized learning material; Prevalence of Child labor and migration; Poor compliance of schemes, policies/laws related to children and girls.

Mobilization & Micro-planning; Optimizing Utilization of public resources; Convergence with Government; Sensitizing community & school system on equity issues; Adolescent Girls’ Forums; Bridge courses for mainstreaming of Out-of-School adolescent girls to impart age-appropriate competencies by girl friendly pedagogy & contextualized material; Compensatory Education to Low performing girls for completion of secondary level education; Pedagogic improvement in school; Life Skills to adolescents.

Outcomes

Program piloted with the government & CBOs in 1 district, further reached out to 450,000 children (80% girls) in diverse geographies of 7 districts in Rajasthan, India. Presently, programme is being implemented in 3 districts with a cost of US$ 25 per child/month.
