OverviewContributors

Challenge

Targets economically disadvantaged students in Greater Accra. Demographic data is collected from students upon enrollment, including the breadwinner's occupation and mother's education level. Daily attendance and payment is tracked. Exams are conducted in math and literacy per term. A sample of Omega students participated in an initial comparative study of student achievement using the national test, compared with scores of students from other low-cost schools. Omega plans to continue participating annually in such studies.

Description

Opened two schools in 2009, two more in 2010, six schools in 2011, and ten schools in 2012. Since March 2011, total enrollment grew from 4,417 students to 11,596 students by February 2013. The schools provide a daily, all-inclusive fee model and in-house developed curriculum.
