Challenge
NGA was diluting its efforts to educate former street children by also providing schooling to community students. This necessitated a shift to focus on educating former street children exclusively.
Description
Initial, midterm and post-assessments are conducted to monitor performance. Children are assessed in English language, reading, and mathematics to determine academic needs, followed by periodic assessments and necessary learning support to meet goals.
Outcomes
241 children have come into the program (188 males, 53 females). 127 males were assessed and 29% were at grade level, while 67% showed academic deficiencies requiring remedial support. The average length of time needed to meet these academic goals was 68 days for males and 64 days for females.
