OverviewContributors

Challenge

Historically, SSA grains are stored in stationary farm or home storage constructed from primitive or traditional locally available materials, which are not effective in preventing postharvest losses (PHL). Surplus grain cannot be safely stored and marketed due to inadequate storage infrastructure.

Description

NeverIdle Mobile Utility Storage offers a mobile storage solution with high utility metal roofs, walls, and cone-shaped floors that are raised above ground, protect against condensation, and are easy to handle and fumigate when needed. This solution mitigates grain postharvest losses, making storage more efficient and secure for land tenure insecure growers.

Outcomes

The project has impacted 500 lives by providing more secure grain storage, leading to reduced postharvest losses and improved food security. The mobile units allow farmers to better control their storage needs, resulting in higher quality and marketable surplus grain.
