OverviewContributors

Challenge

The program is designed to address the developmental needs and educational integration of institutionalized children aged 2-8 years in China.

Description

Quarterly progress reports written by caregivers track children's developmental progress. Essential elements of effective preschools are assessed every six months with a standard form. Results are used to identify strengths and to develop an action plan to address elements that need improvement. Supervisory staff closely monitor the program and implementation of the action plan.

Outcomes

Trained about 12,000 caregivers, including preschool teachers, nannies, foster parents, and youth mentors. The program has impacted more than 100,000 children in 468 communities.
