Challenge
Shrimp farming faces challenges related to water quality, affecting shrimp productivity and leading to a failure probability of 50%. Farmers manually measure water quality, leading to inefficiencies and mistakes that can result in financial loss and environmental damage.
Description
Jala uses IoT devices consisting of sensors to gather water quality data, which is then sent to the cloud for analysis. Farmers can access this data via a web app, allowing them to make informed decisions to optimize shrimp yield and reduce farming losses. The solution reduces measurement time from 20-30 minutes to 15 seconds and provides actionable insights to farmers, increasing yield by up to 30%.
Outcomes
The precision aquaculture solution has minimized farming loss by up to 30%, saved farmers about $200K in total in the latest cycle, and increased awareness about water quality among shrimp farmers. The current prototypes are running in 40 ponds across Java Island, and 13 farmers are actively using the device. Additionally, PT. Indmira is using the device for their Recirculating Aquaculture System in Yogyakarta.
