Challenge

The project aims to address the challenge of low rice production in women-run smallholder farms in Mozambique due to the lack of access to environmentally friendly and efficient agricultural practices.

Description

The solution involves using ducks to protect crops from pests and weeds, and azolla plants as a biofertilizer. This reduces the need for chemical inputs and provides additional benefits such as meat, eggs, and natural nitrogen sources. Training for farmers and the establishment of livestock disease clinics are also part of the solution.

Outcomes

The project helped in reducing the environmental impact of rice farming, enhanced food security and nutrition for the communities, and empowered women by improving their livelihoods.
