Challenge
According to WHO, around 830 women die every day from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth, mostly in rural settings of low-income countries. Most of these deaths can be prevented with adequate Prenatal Care, which becomes impossible in rural communities due to the lack of qualified and well-equipped staff.
Description
“Healthy Pregnancy” overcomes the barriers of remote zones with a portable Prenatal Care Kit powered by a folding solar panel for areas without electricity. It integrates an ultrasound scanner to detect obstetric risks and blood and urine test strips to perform analysis and complete a quality prenatal check-up. This risk screening is remotely supervised by gynaecologists through a Health Information System, referring obstetric complications in advance to centres with appropriate resources.
Outcomes
Reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality by more than 35% in rural communities of Guatemala.
