Challenge
Around the world, 500 million smallholder farmers rely on unpredictable rainfall for their crops; limiting farming potential. To help alleviate this problem we have developed a low-cost solar-powered irrigation pump to meet their needs. It's called the SF1 solar pump.
Description
The SF2 has three main parts: the PV panels, two 40 W solar panels to convert sunlight into electrical energy; the motor, a specially designed DC motor to use the electrical energy to turn the flywheel; and the pump, a reciprocal piston pump to draw water out of a well, river or lake.
The pump can lift 21,000 L of water a day. This can be lifted 7 meters and has a total head of 15 m. Works well with hose, drip, and sprinklers. And that's not all! All Futurepump solar pumps now come with remote monitoring as standard. If you are interested in learning more about this please contact us.
Outcomes
The project has impacted 1500 lives by improving the incomes and livelihoods of smallholder farmers in a sustainable way. We are currently working with distributors across 13 countries with a high demand for the solar pump right across Africa and Asia.
