Challenge
A 2006 UNICEF study found that nearly 18% of 4,000 girl students in Nepal interviewed had experienced severe sexual abuse. A research conducted by HimRights in 2013, studying 2,000 girls in seven districts in Nepal (13 - 18 years old), found that 1 in 10 girls had experienced sexual violence. Schools were the most common places for assault with 1 in 3 girls attacked in school. UN Women describes the violence against women and girls during the pandemic as a 'Shadow Pandemic'.
