Demand Limiting Controller (DLC)

United States

The DLC is an intelligent networked system that automatically manages HVAC energy, including demand, kWh use and overall HVAC load during peak hours for industrial, commercial and retail facilities. By leveraging discrete zone data with weather forecasts, the DLC ensures optimal building conditions with managed HVAC operation.

OverviewContributors

Challenge

Commercial and industrial buildings often struggle with high energy costs due to inefficient HVAC systems. These costs can be exacerbated by demand charges, peak rate charges, and unoptimized HVAC loads, especially during peak hours.

Description

The DLC system utilizes patented technology to manage HVAC energy effectively. It replaces existing thermostats with SES thermostats and uses a central controller to read temperatures from these thermostats. By employing algorithms to control demand, usage, and peak rate charges, the DLC optimizes HVAC operation, reduces energy costs, and enhances overall efficiency. The browser-based interface allows for easy control and monitoring via various devices.

Outcomes

The DLC has been implemented in various facilities, leading to significant energy savings. Cummings Properties reported saving almost 20% per month on electricity, while EDGE Tech Corp in Ada, OK, saved several thousand dollars over six months. St. Michaels Church in Lyons, NY, also reported considerable savings on heating expenses. Overall, the DLC system has helped various organizations reduce their energy costs and improve HVAC efficiency.
