Count Me In

Mauritius

SPOON’s Count Me In is a web-based app designed to improve nutrition and feeding practices for children outside permanent family care and those with disabilities. It generates customized holistic care plans, empowers caregivers through educational content, and provides healthcare administrators with early warning systems for nutrition-related issues. Initial deployments show significant impact, especially in reducing anemia and wasting.

OverviewContributors

Challenge

Children living outside permanent family care and those with disabilities face high rates of malnutrition and often aren't included in mainstream health programs. There is a lack of real-time data to monitor caregiver behavior change and measure child-level impact such as growth monitoring, anemia screening, and improved caregiver feeding techniques.

Description

Count Me In is a web-based app that guides users through child assessments in the areas of Mealtime, Growth, and Anemia. It uses WHO standards and decision-tree logic to generate recommendations. The app includes educational content, real-time data collection, and offers comprehensive reporting for monitoring and evaluation.

Outcomes

Initial data indicate a 25% reduction in wasting and a 60% reduction in anemia. The app has been peer-reviewed by experts and deployed in two sites in Mauritius, with ongoing expansions to Vietnam and Zambia.
