Challenge
Millions of families in Nepal suffer from poverty and unsafe houses. 28.6% of the population lives in poverty, of which 95% reside in rural areas. 50% of houses are unsafe, disproportionately affecting women and children and COVID-19 has hit the poorest the hardest. The brick industry is booming, creating a unique opportunity to create jobs. But the fired brick industry is responsible for child labour and 37% of CO2 emissions from combustion. The situation is unsustainable and unacceptable.
Description
Our micro-enterprise model provides driven micro-entrepreneurs with low-cost machines, training and support to establish long-term sustainable construction enterprises. Using innovative CSEB Interlocking Brick technology eco-friendly bricks can be produced using local materials. Each enterprise ignites a sustainable economic engine within the community, building 10-20 new homes yearly, creating 8-10 full time jobs and reducing 70-ton of CO2 year-on-year.
