Challenge
In Pakistan, 22.8 million children are out of school and 51% are girls. Gender inequities exist because many parents worry about girls travelling long distances on their own as schools are not close to home. Access to classrooms, school supplies, and teachers is often scarce in the places that need it the most. In some areas, cultural and familial norms limit access to education through threats of violence and shame or ridicule, even when resources are available.
Description
Broad Class - Listen to Learn is an accessible and affordable program capable of delivering interactive, student-centered instruction that is welcomed in many resource-poor communities. It uses an integrated approach with cross-cutting themes on universal principles for basic education and human rights, utilizing relevant cultural and geographical scenarios. The program is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has demonstrated success through both quantitative and qualitative participant data.
Outcomes
The program has benefited 300,000 children in 2,386 classrooms, 3,400 heads and teachers in 838 schools, 172 educational supervisors, and 22,679 parents and community groups.
