Challenge
The lack of sustainable energy solutions in sub-Saharan Africa contributes to persistent poverty and limits economic opportunities, especially for women, youth, and the informal sector. There is a need to provide accessible and affordable renewable energy solutions to these communities to stimulate growth and development.
Description
AbzeSolar scales up the use of sustainable solar and other renewable energy solutions through partnerships, such as with the UNDP. The implementation includes training for local expertise, provision of affordable energy products, and acting as a catalyst for local economic growth. The initiative also ensures the empowerment of women, youth, and the informal sector, aiming to transition the informal economy to the formal sector.
Outcomes
- Train at least 10 people in each MFP into sustainable energy solutions
- Ensure all MFPs can sell, deliver, maintain, and implement sustainable energy solutions
- Provide solar light access to 80% of families and the informal sector within 30 minutes walking of each MFP
- Provide solar energy systems to 50% of these families and the informal sector
- Make warm water systems accessible to 50% of the families and informal sector
- Demonstrate significant growth of the local informal and private sector
- Show a 50% poverty decrease within communities
- Implement solar energy standards for sub-Saharan Africa (QualitySun standards)
